Fibs
There's a great article in today's New York Times about fellow SCBWI member Gregory K. Pincus and his now-famous "fibs"--i.e., six-line poems that use the Fibonacci sequence to dictate the number of syllables per line (1,1,2,3,5,8). He wrote about using fibs as a writing warm-up on his blog and apparantly it has spread all over the Web. Somehow I'm always the last one to find out about these things. Anyhow, congratulations to Gregory K.!

Wow!
Fibs?
Who knew?
I just thought
They were little lies.
I think he's on to something here.

No,
Me
Yes, me
And not you
I'm the last to know
I'm not kidding--it's really true

You:
Last,
Not least.
That makes me
The penultimate
I love to use that word, don't you?

I have never seen "pen" before ultimate--huh. :) Cool word. :)

Fibs?
Yeah.
They're cool.
But why stop?
Six lines is too short.
This format could be extended.
Fibbonacci's sequence goes on to infinity.
Though it would probably become unweildy after a twenty-one syllable line.
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la. La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la. La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la. La, la-- Never mind.

Thanks for the SCBWI shout-out!

For the moment, I make another Greg the penultimate comment...

That's so cool! Thanks for letting me know, although I don't really think I explained the phenomenon best. Reporters on deadline...
